Grief Counsellor in Worthing, West Sussex
Person-centred counselling for grief, loss and difficult life changes - in person in Goring‑by‑Sea, or online.
If you’re visiting this page, something in your life may feel heavy, confusing or painful right now. It can be hard to know where to turn. You might be grieving, feeling overwhelmed, or trying to make sense of a change you didn’t choose. You don’t have to navigate this alone.
How grief counselling can help
Grief counselling offers a calm, supportive space to talk about what you’ve lost and how it’s affecting you. Whether your grief comes from bereavement, a change in health, a relationship ending or a shift in identity, counselling can help you make sense of your emotions and feel less alone with them.
Together, we explore what feels painful or confusing, and look at what might help you feel steadier. Grief doesn’t disappear, but many people find they can begin to reconnect with life in a way that feels possible again.
Meet Me
The relationship between a client and their counsellor is the most important part of any therapy. You need to feel safe, respected and understood so that you can share what matters to you, knowing you won’t be judged.
I’m Liane — a qualified counsellor based in Goring‑by‑Sea.
I have a lot of experience working with grief and loss, in it’s many different forms, through my long career as a nurse and health visitor, and through my voluntary work with Samaritans, Cruse and a pregnancy loss charity.
Starting therapy
Often people arrive unsure where they want to begin. There’s no set pattern for each session, and you don’t need to come with anything prepared. I work at your pace and am led by what feels important for you to share. Some weeks you may have a lot to talk about; other weeks you might not know where to start. Whatever you bring is welcome.
When you’re ready
If you’d like to explore whether we’re a good fit, I offer a free 30‑minute introductory session, for us to meet and see how it feels to talk together. This is simply a relaxed conversation with no pressure for you to share anything deeply personal. You can ask questions about how I work, the types of support I offer, and what therapy might look like for you. I’ll explain a little about my approach and make sure you have the information you need to decide whether you’d like to book a session with me.
Where we meet - Worthing and Goring-By-Sea
I offer both in person and online sessions, depending on what works best for you. My in person sessions are held in a quiet and peaceful space in my campervan which sits on my driveway, close to the sea.
I’m a qualified therapist, based in Goring‑by‑Sea, West Sussex. My counselling approach is rooted in person‑centred values and I keep the focus on understanding your experience and working alongside you.
My route into counselling began long before I trained. I spent many years working as a registered nurse and health visitor, sitting with people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. These years taught me the importance of really listening and trying to understand things from their perspective.
My time with Samaritans, Cruse Bereavement Support and Pregnancy Options Centre, along with my own experiences of bereavement and loss, have shaped the way I relate with people. I’ve learned that what most of us need is someone who is steady, compassionate and present for us whilst we make sense of what we’re carrying.
Outside the therapy room, you’ll often find me by the sea or spending time with my family. Being a parent and now a grandparent is central to my life, and getting out in the fresh air, going for a run and having my dog alongside me are the things that keep me grounded.

Frequently Asked Questions
People often have questions before starting counselling, and it’s completely okay to want a clearer sense of what to expect. You’re welcome to bring your uncertainties — we can explore them together.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply not yourself. You may have been carrying something quietly for a long time, or perhaps life has changed in a way that feels hard to navigate. Counselling can be helpful whenever you’re wanting space to talk, reflect, or understand yourself more deeply. You don’t need a clear reason to come — just a sense that you’d like some support as you find your way through what you’re experiencing.
What happens in a counselling session?
Each session is your time. You’ll have a space where you can talk about whatever feels important, even if it’s hard to put into words. I’ll listen closely and without judgement, helping you explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels comfortable. Together, we gently try to make sense of what’s been going on and look at what might help you feel move forward.
Can I talk about anything, even if I’m not sure where to start?
Absolutely. Often people begin sessions not really knowing what to say and that’s completely okay. We can start wherever you want to, and together we can find the words for what’s been happening. Nothing is too small, too messy, or too complicated to bring.
How long does counselling take and how often would I come?
Most people come weekly as this helps us build a relationship. How long you stay is entirely up to you. Some people come for a short period to focus on something specific; others choose longer‑term work to explore things more deeply. It’s totally your choice and you can choose to stop sessions at anytime.
Will counselling help me feel more like myself again?
Many people find that counselling helps them reconnect with parts of themselves that feel lost or overwhelmed. As you talk things through and understand yourself more clearly, you may begin to feel more grounded, more confident, and more like the person you recognise. It’s a gentle process, and we go at a pace that feels safe for you.
